After writing Final MBBS exam in late Nov & Dec, you know that you are finishing your student-hood. Why don't you have something other than an exam, to mark the end of your student-hood? Hence we decided to go on a batch trip to Meemure, Sripada & Hatton. We started our journey on 7th Jan 2016 at around 8.45pm from Town Hostel, aiming to reach our first destination - Meemure Jungle Resort, well before the lunchtime of next day. It was told to us that the it's a confusing route and it will take 4 hours from kandy, but fortunately we went to Hunnasgiriya 3 hours before the planned time with the help of Google Map and GPS. We waited those extra hours loitering around and finally we reached our tour-site by two small vehicles arranged by the trip agent. That 34km journey to the jungle resort was a tiresome one and we felt it of a worthy cause, once we reached there. The landscape, weather, noise around and the food were almost like a feast to our sensors. Notably the absence of mobile network and electricity, facilitated us to live 100% at Meemure. The village Meemure surrounded by beautiful and virgin forest stretch of Dumbara (Knuckles Range) borders to the world’s biggest granite rock “Lakegala” which stands like a giant protecting the village. The splendour of Lakegala along with the breathtaking views of the waterfalls in the surrounding of the village drives away the weariness of visitors’ minds. We enjoyed our stay and persevered memories of lifetime. Thanks to Abeetha Aiye and team for their services. We spend two days and one night at Meemure. First day we did the Trekking and seen the Unnamed Fall - according to our tour guide and had a river bath. After having BBQ Chicken, Fish, potato and sausage and dinner we had a peaceful sleep since we all a dead tried of travelling and a long trekking. Next day, was the Adventure day. We had Mud play, river sliding and Jumping. After the lunch around 2pm we set our way back to Hunnasgiriya and reached there by 6pm. We stayed that night at YMHA in kandy town and started our 2nd Journey to Hatton, aiming to reach Sripada only at round 8pm - not too early or not too late, for we planned to reach the Adam's peak around 5am next day to witness the Sunrise. In Hatton, we had In Hatton, we had a nice time in Dimbula Cabana, walking through tea estates, taking photos and had the lunch there. Then we reached the Sripada at around 7.30pm. After doing some shopping and having the dinner, we started to climb in three groups at around 10pm. We didn’t think that we all could make it to reach the peak on time as many of were tried already due to Meemure adventures. Adam’s peak is one of the rare places that people of four major religions in the world worship. The mountain is situated in the Rathnapura district with a height of 7,360 feet (2,243 meters). We all were fortunate to witness the beauty of sunrise along with the lot of foreign tourists as we were on the peak on a working day (Monday). We leisurely climbed down and started our Journey home at 2pm on 11th Jan. On our way, we had the dinner at Gayathri’s home at Vavuniya and reached Jaffna on 2am, 12th Jan 2016. This 5 days trip was turned out to be a life event of own. |
